The Dubuque Community School District started a Foundation (DCSDF) as a means of developing alternative forms of funding for education in our community.  The organization was founded in 1991 under the direction of Dr. Howard Pigg and the Board of Education.  In 2013, the name of the Foundation was changed to the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) and we became our own entity with an executive director and board of directors.  In 2023 the board approved the executive director position to move from part-time to full-time, as we are dedicated to building community relationships to grow resources for extending the excellence of Dubuque's public schools, and we know that these supportive relationships lead to educational enrichment for all students.

As the Dubuque Community School District navigates budgeting restraints and an increase in student need, we are here to work alongside the schools to ensure that our schools stay strong and our students have the resources they need to be successful.
Our mission at The Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) is to support student achievement by promoting investment in the Dubuque Community School District. We believe all students should have the resources they need to successful and we work to fulfill our mission and vision by securing financial gifts and grants for school programs and projects that are not fully supported by public tax dollars.
