General Magic Movie Screening with Q&A

Sat 26 Oct 2019 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST Soho House, 76 Dean St, Soho, London, W1D 3SQ

We're using sponsorship budget for a free screening of General Magic (see official trailer) at the beautiful Soho House Dean Street cinema (think big red velvet armchairs). 100% of cash from ticket sales are being donated to Offset.earth who fund the world's best climate crisis solutions (more info) and 10 totally free tickets are also available for those in funding crisis/depth of start-up life bank balances. Since it's a Saturday, we're opening this up to bring a plus one/friend/mentor/kid/anyone who would be inspired.

The film is all about the birth and death of one of Silicon Valley’s most important companies, General Magic. Launched in the late 80’s, they provided the backbone of all the technology that we take for granted today. Tickets to the initial screening sold out in 45 seconds and tickets to the New York screening sold in 7 minutes. It's currently only being shown in private viewings around the world, and thanks to wonder-woman Emma Sinclair, we're also being blessed with the producer, writer and GM employee, Sarah Kerruish for a Q&A post-screening. She says..

“The making of GENERAL MAGIC was a very personal journey for me. Not only had I filmed the early days of that company but I also experienced the catastrophic failure of a startup that I had been very involved in. So often we hear about the great success stories in Silicon Valley but what about all those people who don't make it? This was my way of understanding the role of failure in any creative endeavour and what it takes to bring important ideas to life. Our hope is that this film will inspire the next generation of technologists and makers to learn from those who have gone before them and apply the lessons of General Magic to solving the most important problems of our day.”
