Four Winds x Community Quilting

Come and help us make our Mahjong Quilt!

To kick off East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) Heritage Month, Four Winds Mahjong Club and Community Quilting are hosting a series of FREE story-quilting workshops at the ESEA Community Centre in Hackney.

Members of Four Winds Mahjong Club, the wider ESEA community and our allies are invited to share your story by stitching your own mahjong tile.

Across 8 sessions (don't worry — you don't have to come to all of them!) we'll guide you through story-quilting techniques including paper cutting, appliqué and embroidery.

Once the tiles are finished, we’ll bring them together into a Collective Mahjong Quilt, displayed in its full glory at the ESEA Community Centre during the 2027 Lunar New Year celebrations. YAY!

Session info

~ 12 Sept | 3, 17 & 24 October,  2 – 5 pm

~  Sessions are free, but please sign up to attend.

~  No experience needed, all abilities welcome!

~  Book each session you’d like to come to. No worries if you miss a session or two — you can jump in at any point.

~  All materials are provided, but if you’d like to bring or donate your own fabrics, that would be lovely 😊

~  13+ (Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult)

Community Quilting brings people together to stitch, share stories and make something collective. We run hands-on workshops with groups, spaces and communities across London — no experience needed, just a bit of thread and good company.

Four Winds Mahjong Club

Four Winds Mahjong Club is a volunteer-led community club that brings people together for weekly mahjong sessions. We teach mahjong to beginners and provide a welcoming space for ESEA folks and allies to come together and play mahjong every weekend at ESEA Community Centre in Hackney and Camden Chinese Community Centre in Euston.
