On March 4th 2023, Warrington lost one of its greatest, Frank Hawley. Frank was the Warringtonian's Warringtonian, actively supporting the community for over 50 years as a teacher, school governor, parishioner, RFL official, timekeeper, and match commissioner.
Frank was a proud Warrington Wolves Foundation Heart and Soul Community award winner, and his footprint lives on in the South Stand at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. From refereeing school boys rugby and making his first Wembley appearance in 1989, he officiated on the biggest games on the biggest stage, with 4 Challenge Cup finals and 2 Grand Finals amongst his honours.
In the final week of his life, we were so lucky that he (and the rest of the family) were supported by the wonderful staff at St Rocco’s hospice. They couldn’t do enough to support us, and we could never repay them. In 2023, over £17,000 was raised in Frank's memory, and we continue to honour his memory through the Frank Hawley Challenge 2024.
The running costs of St Rocco's Hospice are around £ 12,500 a day, and 80% of this has to be funded through donations and charity. We aim to raise as much money as possible again this year in Frank's memory in the hope that we can fully fund the hospice for another day.
We have several events planned throughout the year, and these will be updated as and when they are confirmed:
1) Run 1000 miles in the calendar year
2) Coniston 14 23rd March 2024
3) Warrington Half Marathon - Sunday 22nd September 2024
4) 21st April 2024: An afternoon/evening with Martin Murray
Dates to be confirmed:
