How to Start Pitching

Pitching can feel daunting, especially when approaching editors you have never worked with before. In this session, experienced freelancers Emma Wilkinson and Lily Canter share practical advice on how to make those first approaches count. 

The session will cover:

• What every strong pitch needs
• How to clearly sell your story idea
• How to present yourself as a reliable, professional freelancer

You will also learn how to research the right editor, tailor your pitch to a publication, and build confidence in putting your ideas forward, even when you are early in your freelancing career. 

Between them Emma and Lily have more than 25 years' freelancing experience writing for legacy media and specialist publications including The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph, British Medical Journal, BBC, Runner's World and Women's Health.
