Enjoy a sunset train ride on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, NV to help benefit the Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity's efforts to restore the iconic Sutro Tunnel & historic site.
Thursday, October 19th, 2023 marks the 154th Anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony of the Sutro Tunnel--and it's the date you see painted on the iconic Sutro Tunnel Portal entrance today.
You'll board the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad train cars at the 1870s Virginia & Truckee depot in Virginia City, NV at 5:30 P.M.. You'll be treated to a pioneer-style whiskey sampling from Dovetail Distillery (of Mound House, NV).
Then you'll enjoy the sunset views of the Comstock as you ride the Virginia & Truckee to Gold Hill, NV at 6 p.m.
When we arrive to the historic Gold Hill Train Depot, you'll be served dinner from a historic Virginia City-inspired menu while musician Carson Chandler plays his incredible melodic country songs.
On the ride back to Virginia City, Pat Neylan, the Friends of Sutro Tunnel history docent (& curator of St. Mary's Church Museum), will share his retelling of what happened on this Day in History in 1869 when construction commenced on the Sutro Tunnel.
Your attendance will help benefit the Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity (a registered 501c3 Nevada non-profit) in their mission to rebuild & restore the Sutro Tunnel, the surrounding townsite, and its historic legacy.
