Join a two day level 2 Bikeability course this summer!

Level 2 Bikeability courses teach children how to cycle confidently and safely on quiet roads. We'll start by working through Bikeability Level 1 skills in an off road Traffic free setting before heading out into quiet local roads to practice Bikeability Level 2 skills including positioning on the road and communication with other road users plus turning in and out of simple junctions.

To attend this course, riders must be able to ride a bike (set off, pedal, slow down and stop). Trainees will need to show that they meet Level 1 assessment criteria to take part in Level 2 on road.

At the end of the course, each rider will receive a Bikeability certificate and badge plus personalised feedback.

The course runs over two days as follows:

Day One: Thursday 27th August 9:15-12:45

  • 9:15-9:30 - Welcome and introductions

  • 9:30-10:15 - Off road practice working through bike safety checks, pedalling with control, looking over your shoulder and riding one handed

  • 10:15-12:30 - Cycling on quiet roads practicing signaling, positioning and using simple junctions

  • 12:30-12:45 - Feedback and prep for day 2

Day Two: Friday 28th August 9:15-12:45

  • 9:15-9:30 - Welcome and bike safety checks

  • 9:30-12:15 - Cycling on quiet roads developing skills from day 1 and independently following and applying safe cycling practice to new junctions

  • 12:30-12:45 - Celebrate, feedback and next steps

Below are a few key things to note:

  • Riders must be aged 9 years and above.

  • Each rider must be able to ride a bike already (set off, pedal, slow down and stop), this is not a learn to ride session.

  • Parents/carers are not required to stay, however we will need to check that your child can ride (set off, pedal, slow down and stop) before you leave in case they are unable to join the on road session. Parents/carers are invited to stay for the first hour to observe the off road session.

  • Each rider will need to bring a roadworthy bike with two working brakes, unfortunately we will not have time to repair bikes that arrive in need of repair and we are unable to provide loan bikes for this session. The instructors will have the final say on whether your child’s bike is safe for them to use during the course. This handy guide will help you to check your bike ahead of the session.

  • All riders must bring their own water and snack.

  • We will be outside all session so please apply sun cream before arriving.

  • All riders must wear a helmet. We have a selection of loan helmets that can be borrowed.

  • We will be cycling on quiet roads with low traffic levels.

  • The maximum group number is 8 trainee riders.

  • The course will be taught by two qualified National Standard Cycle Instructors.

  • High visibility vests will be provided by Frome Community Bike Project for all riders to wear during the training.

  • Full T&Cs can be found here.
