Bike Maintenance course: Intermediate Maintenance (The "Tune-Up" Level)

Sat 7 Nov 2026 10:00 AM - Sat 14 Nov 2026 12:00 PM Frome Community Bike Project, Station Approach, BA11 1RE

Join our Bike Maintenance course: Intermediate Maintenance (The "Tune-Up" Level)

Please note this course runs over two days:

Day 1: Saturday 7th November 10am - 12pm

Day 2: Saturday 14th November 10am - 12pm

Learn about:

  • ABC Quick Check: A pre-ride safety check (Air, Brakes, Chain, Quick Releases)..
  • M Check. How it works.
  • Brakes: Brake Adjustment: Centering brake calipers and adjusting cable tension for rim brakes; basic pad alignment for disc brakes.

Plus:

  • Brake Service: Replacing brake pads and cables/housing for both rim and disc brakes.
  • Drivetrain: Know When It's Time to Say Goodbye
  • Spot When Your Chain, Cassette, or Chainrings Need Replacing: Learn to read the warning signs — stretched chains, shark-toothed chainrings, worn cassette teeth — before they chew up your drivetrain and empty your wallet. Catch it early, save big later.
  • Gear Shifting Adjustment: Using barrel adjusters to fix minor shifting issues.
  • Derailleur Service: Limit screw adjustment; indexing gears from scratch.
  • Torque Specs Matter: Overtightening (especially on carbon fiber parts) can be catastrophic. Use a torque wrench.
  • Bike fitting basics.

Groups are small - only 4 people per class - and taught by our expert mechanics. Places are charged a £50 per person plus booking fee.
