A special event: talks and conversation with

Frome Society, Frome Civic Society and Mayday Saxonvale

Frome’s character has been formed over centuries by those who have lived and worked here. Mayday Saxonvale will join Frome Society and Civic Society to talk about reigniting that sense of ownership and agency, and how heritage values, civic stewardship and community ownership could help shape the future of our town.

Frome Society will present evidence that our rich history is no longer being nurtured. Twenty years ago, there was a passionate movement to build the town’s future on conserving our urban heritage. Now, beneath an effervescent surface of creative and community activity, the fabric of our historic townscape is being eroded. Long term, this makes Frome a less attractive place to live, work and visit. We will look at ways to turn the tide and re-engage with the past.

Mayday Saxonvale will focus on how we should care for our places in a future where new land and property ownership structures, funding models and external capital are replacing the historical balance of local leadership, civic institutions and traditional custodianship. They will outline their community ownership model for Saxonvale that could help to recreate long-term stewardship and restore decision-making to those with a sustained stake in the town.

Refreshments will be available as usual after the talk.

Before and after the discussion, attendees can view information and speak with members of the team regarding the upcoming Mayday Saxonvale’s Community Share Offer and plans for the Saxonvale site.

Entrance is free to all
