David Clensy shares with us his two long walks – tackling the 93 miles of Wiltshire’s White Horse Trail and then the 50 miles of the Sarsen Way. He was joined in the adventures by his young son, Charlie. His book, Walking the White Horses, follows their progress from horse to horse; while Walking the Standing Stones follows the trail from Swindon to Salisbury.
David will tell us about their meander through the natural wonders of southern England’s chalk downland environment, its people, heritage and wildlife. Along the way he will share the story of the ancient landmarks they encountered and the role they have played in the cultures, belief systems and lived experiences of Wiltshire folk across the centuries.
David Clensy is a writer based in Wiltshire. He spent more than 20 years in regional newspaper journalism and was twice named South-West Feature Writer of the Year. In July 2023 he won the Frome Festival Short Story Competition Local Prize. He has written six historical fiction novels set in the Second World War, as well as a number of non-fiction works, including books about his Wiltshire walks.
