Marc Allum has worked professionally in the world of art and antiques for some 36 years. He is an auctioneer and consultant who started collecting as a youngster and cut his teeth early, in the world of the London salerooms. He has been a specialist on the BBCs Antiques Roadshow for some 29 years. He is a writer and lecturer, has written many books and magazine articles over the years on all facets of the world of antiques and collectables and is a self-confessed ‘collectorholic’’

The acquisition of his varied and eclectic knowledge has taken him on a personal journey over the decades, prompting him to examine the very origins of ‘man’s’ obsession with this particularly human condition. From our ancient ancestors to the development of cabinets of curiosity and the formation of our great museums and the famous and infamous collectors who founded them, Marc delves into the myth behind powerful objects, the psychology that drives people, and the sheer fascination and compulsion that comes with the desire to acquire.
