Pilgimages to Forgotten Churches

Luke Sherlock, the owner of Sherlock and Pages, the bookshop at the foot of Catherine Hill, talks to Tim Mowl, about his personal pilgrimages, recounted in his book Forgotten Churches, to discover and explore the magic of seventy British churches, places of ‘whispering memories’ and the ruptures of history charted in church interiors and his search for artistic treasures in these repositories of the past. These include the William Morris shrine in Wiltshire, the 12^th century writhing phantasmagoria of Kilpeck in Herefordshire and the macabre scenes of leering skeletons in fancy dress painted on a rood screen in Norfolk.
