Time: 1:00-1:30PM – Grief Rituals – The Power of Remembering

Presenter: Anne Dumais

Bio: Anne Dumais is an Occupational Therapist who has spent over 30 years walking alongside and gently guiding individuals and their community through the tender terrain of life-altering health transitions at every age, aging at home, end of life, death and the many shapes of grief that these can invoke. As an intensive case manager, counsellor, resource planner and coordinator, she brings compassion, creativity, and a deep respect for the wisdom of the human body and spirit, as well as the powerful connection between them. Through this work, Anne has been honoured to witness the power of presence, the relief and release of being truly seen, the gift of vulnerability, the freedom in speaking truth, and the energy that arises when people come together in love and care of each other. Together we can do great, kind things. Each “pebble” of learning, gathered with gratitude from those she has walked with and worked with, she now shares locally through her new private practice, Yellow Pebbles Counselling & Navigation.

Session Summary:

We will be diving into a collaborative discussion of Grief Rituals including:

  1. How they may be defined

  2. Examples of big and small rituals you may already be practicing - intentionally or unintentionally

  3. What our own body and spirit (and some research) might be telling us about their impact

  4. How we may be able to harness them to bring added little glimmers, resilience and strength to help us carry our grief just a bit easier, even on days where it is heavier or the road rougher

The goal is for you to walk away with some potential tools for yourself and/or to share as you make your way with grief or at the very least, to plant a seed that will grow when you have the capacity to give it some attention and care in the days and weeks to come. This session is well suited to anyone navigating grief, supporting someone who is grieving or anyone looking to be more grief literate in support of their community or preparation for what lays ahead for us all. Sharing is voluntary and just having your energy and ears will be a gift.
