Fruitmarket presents SERAFINE1369’s (my body / running wild / this animal) glorious: a celebration of dancing as a relational practice that is vital, tender and urgent. The work will be performed by twice each day by different constellations of twelve performers.
The choreography works with SERAFINE1369’s long term research into dance as an ‘oracular practice’. The working process has been a porous one, with guest performers continually invited into the rehearsal process with the intention of developing a score that is accessible to dancers with a breadth of movement practices and experiences. This invites trust and precision, while keeping the group dynamic live and in unfolding, real-time relation.
Here in the Fruitmarket Warehouse a cast of dancers that have been developing the work over the past year will perform alongside a new group of dancers based in Scotland who will enter the language of the piece to participate in a shared ritual of practice and performance, exploring relational, responsive dancing in a gallery context.

About SERAFINE1369
SERAFINE1369 is an artist, dancer and body-focused researcher working with dancing as a philosophical undertaking, a political project with ethical psycho-spiritual ramifications for being-in-the-world; dancing as intimate technology. They work with/in the context of the hostile architectures of the metropolis towards moments and states of transcendence.
Their practice is relational, cumulative and often collaborative and they work in various constellations, at different scales and in different roles to build spaces for communing/attuning/communicating. Spaces that might hold the complex, multiple and contradictory; spaces that consider movement and transformation as inevitable.
Their work prioritises listening and is responsive to the specificities of context, using movement as a tool for flattening hierarchies of perception between visible and invisible (felt/sensed/remembered) presences. SERAFINE1369 is also an acupuncturist and a doctoral researcher at Goldsmiths.
