About Fruit Works Co-operative
Fruit Works is a social enterprise focused on getting more people growing & enjoying fruit in Leeds & Bradford, as a step towards more resilient local food systems.
We envision that in 20 years, everyone will know how to care for their tree and what do with their fruit.
We help people to plant & maintain new community orchards, we work with schoolchildren to ignite their interest in fruit growing, and we run courses & events to share fruit growing skills and revive a fruit growing culture.
And we grow baby fruit trees at our nursery to be planted mostly in our local area.
About the nursery:
We grow around 1000 fruit trees per year, many of which are distributed to our local orchard planting projects. We aim to be as ecologically responsible as we can. We use no chemical inputs and minimal machinery. We're committed to sharing the skills of fruit growing with others.
About volunteer days:
You will:
- learn & share the skills of fruit tree propagation and care
- have a fun day out doing satisfying work
- have the opportunity to quiz our staff member(s) about fruit growing
- meet other people interested in growing fruit & food
- get good exercise! (more gentle tasks also available)
- enjoy a vegan lunch (provided by us) with the group
