Winter Tree Identification Walk - Armley

Sat 28 Nov 2026 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Charlie Cake Park, Armley, Leeds, LS12 3SG

Join us for a relaxed, beginner-friendly winter tree identification walk led by Gini from Fruit Works. We’ll walk together around Charlie Cake Park and then up the road to Hill Top Moor, learning how to identify trees growing across Armley.

Leaves are one of the biggest clues for identifying trees, but in winter most trees have shed their leaves, so we need to look for other clues! Over the course of this session you will learn how to identify broadleaf trees from their buds, twigs and bark. We will observe native and non-native trees found commonly in parks, woodland and hedgerows, and we will finish the session by learning about the fruit trees in the orchard at Hill Top Moor.

Please come dressed for the weather, including suitable footwear for walking through grass. The walk may include uneven or muddy ground. If you have additional access needs, please email gini@fruitworks.org.uk to let us know ahead of the activity.

All participants will receive a laminated winter tree ID hand-out to take home.

This workshop is suitable for people aged 13+
