Welcome to F*Up Nights Melbourne, February 2023 edition!
We're launching our 2023 event series with a special collaborative event with the Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship!
We're a storytelling-focussed gathering acknowledging the mistakes, failures, and f*up stories that impact our personal lives and professional careers, affecting us as the humans that we are.
F*Up Nights is a global movement born in Mexico in 2012 and established to help share public failure stories with hundreds of people attending each event around the world. Each month 3-4 speakers will be invited to talk about their fuckup stories; we’ll learn about their biggest mistakes, what they learned, how they moved on- all whilst sharing invaluable advice along the way.
The speakers will candidly share in 7-10 minutes:
* What their project / business was
* What went wrong / How it affected their personal life / What they learned / What they would do differently.
Speaker 1: Jodie Imam, Tractor Ventures
Jodie is passionate about helping businesses start and grow. Currently she is the CoFounder and Co-CEO at Tractor Ventures.
Prior to this Jodie was at SBE Australia where she led the team in accelerating some of Australia's most innovative female leaders. Jodie set up the Innovation Bay community in Melbourne, is an advisor to multiple startups and a mentor at Startmate.
Previously, she cofounded two-sided marketplace, Occasional Butler, which was acquired by rival Airtasker and depo8 coworking. At the Wade Institute she was a mentor, lecturer and Director of Startups.

*Jodie was recently named a Finalist in the 'Female Fintech Leader of the Year' category at the Fintech Australia 'Finnies' Awards for 2022
Speaker 2: Christie Jenkins, Blackbird
Christie Jenkins has been #1 in Australia and top 10 in the world in 3 different sports - Trampolining, CrossFit and Beach Volleyball.
None of these paid any money (you'd think she'd learn to choose better) so she also has a real job. Currently she's an Investor at Blackbird and Athletic Ventures, and previously she made powerpoint slides for a living as a management consultant.
Christie has run away and joined the circus for a year, has hiked to the top of Kilimanjaro, tried (unsuccessfully, and to the neighbours' dismay) to learn cello during lockdowns, and almost failed year 12 on attendance.
She usually speaks and writes about high performance psychology and how we can take the elite mindset from sport and apply it to startups and leadership… but FuckUp night will be a little different.

Speaker 3: Dom Pym - Co Founder: Up, Ferocia, Euphemia
Dom is an Australian entrepreneur and technologist who co-founded several businesses, including Pin Payments, Ferocia, and Up (up.com.au, Australia’s leading digital bank).
Dom's been involved in software, web, and mobile development for over 20 years from startups to global enterprises in Australia, the UK, the USA, and throughout Asia.
Amidst a growing neobank scene, Up was the first to launch in Australia in October 2018, and is now the #1 rated banking app and the most trusted bank in Australia, amassing over 550,000 very happy customers.
Dom also serves as an advisory board member for Ferocia and Up at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, and he’s a board member at Fintech Australia.
Dom has recently launched his own family office (Euphemia) from which he mentors, advises, and invests in founders and startups globally.
Dom Pym is happy to provide comment on a range of topics related to startups, investment, and technology, as well as banking and finance.

At the end of each story, we have a bit of Q&A time where you’ll have a chance to ask questions- nothing too cheeky, but feel free to dig around.
You’ll hear stories and advice you won’t get elsewhere - and these stories will (hopefully) put you in good stead to not make the same F*Up's.
