FuckUp Nights Melbourne x SENVIC
Welcome to FuckUp Nights Melbourne April edition!
We're continuing our 2023 event series with a special collaborative event with Social Enterprise Network Victoria (SENVIC)!
We're a storytelling-focussed gathering acknowledging the mistakes, failures, and fuckup stories that impact our personal lives and professional careers, affecting us as the humans that we are.
FuckUp Nights is a global movement born in Mexico in 2012 and established to help share public failure stories with hundreds of people attending each event around the world. Each month 3-4 speakers will be invited to talk about their fuckup stories; we’ll learn about their biggest mistakes, what they learned, how they moved on- all whilst sharing invaluable advice along the way.
The speakers will candidly share in 7-10 minutes:
* What their project / business was
* What went wrong / How it affected their personal life / What they learned / What they would do differently.
Speaker 1: Rebecca Scott OAM - Founder & CEO, STREAT
Bec Scott is the Co-founder and CEO of STREAT, a Melbourne-based social enterprise that works with marginalised young people aged 16-24 years and provides them with a healthy self, job and home.
STREAT run a portfolio of 11 foodservice businesses, including cafes, an artisan bakery, a catering company, and a coffee roastery. To date STREAT has worked with over 2,200 young people who have helped serve over 3 million customers.
Prior to starting STREAT Bec spent a decade at the CSIRO working in science communication. Bec is also passionate about the arts and has spent 20 years collaborating with artists, photographers, illustrators, writers, makers and designers.
On a weekend you'll usually find her doing an arts side project, pottering around in STREAT's garden with her partner Kate, or playing Lego with their son Will.

Speaker 2: Jamal Elsheikh - Co-Founder, One Love
Jamal is a social innovator, global influencer, business executive, and serial entrepreneur.
With an impressive track record of creating successful social impact programs and partnerships, Jamal is an inspiration for those who want to make a positive impact in society.
He is also a regular contributor to leading media networks such as ABC, SBS, and BBC.
Jamal is a Kenneth Myer Innovation Fellow for 2022 and an Optus business mentor. Currently, he is working on exciting projects related to the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Speaker 3: Noel Lim - Co-Founder & CEO, Anika Legal
Noel Lim is the Co-founder and CEO of Anika Legal, a social enterprise legal service that provides free, online legal support to assist marginalised renters to maintain safe, secure housing.
Anika Legal's free services are supported by law students enrolled in virtual internship programs, and are funded by university law schools. To date, Anika Legal has assisted over 600 renters to maintain safe housing.
In his spare time you'll find Noel rock climbing, creative writing, or doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

At the end of each story, we have a bit of Q&A time where you’ll have a chance to ask questions- nothing too cheeky, but feel free to dig around.
You’ll hear stories and advice you won’t get elsewhere - and these stories will (hopefully) put you in good stead to not make the same FuckUp's.
We have a few extra questions on our registration form this month, to help guide future social enterprise and impact initiatives curated for the community - please feel free to share what is most relevant so we can help progress some important topics in future activations!
