Description

The Language of Flowers is a choral exploration of nature’s spring and summer beauty, with music ranging from To Daffodils by Benjamin Britten, I Got Me Flowers by Vaughan Williams and the harmony and magic of The Rose by contemporary, Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, among many others.

The concert follows the theme of the rose further with two American composers, Morten Lauridsen, in his collection, Les Chansons des Roses and Eric Whitacre's Go, Lovely Rose plus numerous pieces by Arthur Somervell.

The evening also features a composition written for Fulham Camerata by our new composer in residence, Alexander Hopkins. Daffodils is a piece based on observations in the Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth, the poet’s sister, of the joyous, dancing daffodils by the waterside in the woods, as the siblings set off on a blowy morning walk. Two years later one of the most famous poems in the English language was born!

The concert takes place in the historic church of St Mary’s on Putney Bridge, just by the river.

Join us for some beautiful music on one of the longest summer evenings!
