MASTER THIS COMPLEX AND OFTEN CONFUSING AREA
Do you find the differential diagnosis of hip and groin presentations difficult?
Would you like a clearer understanding of how best to assess and manage femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome, acetabular labral tears and hip dysplasia?
Are you frustrated by patients with hip pain who fail to progress or repeatedly return with recurring problems?
This one-day workshop is designed for physiotherapists and other health professionals who work with physically active adults presenting with anterior hip and groin pain.
The course provides a clear, honest and evidence-based approach, combined with more than 25 years of clinical experience, to explore what does and does not work in the assessment and conservative management of the adult hip patient.
A key aim is for you to leave with a structured approach that simplifies the hip and helps you differentiate between intra-articular and extra-articular pathologies.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is suitable for qualified physiotherapists and other health professionals who assess and manage hip and groin pain in young and active adults, particularly those aged 18–45.
ABOUT THE HYBRID FORMAT
This hybrid course focuses on the assessment and management of the adult hip patient.
The theoretical course material will be sent to you approximately 10 days before the face-to-face workshop, allowing you to study the content in your own time.
On the course day, Benoy will focus on practical skills, assessment techniques, hands-on approaches and interactive clinical discussion to maximise the face-to-face learning experience.
A TYPICAL CLINICAL SCENARIO
Emily is a 32-year-old office worker and regular gym-goer. She developed right anterior hip pain 10 months ago, which was diagnosed as a hip flexor strain and responded favourably to physiotherapy. Her pain has now returned since she started cycling to work, and she has been referred back to physiotherapy.
How do you clinically determine whether her symptoms are intra-articular or extra-articular?
Could this be FAI syndrome, hip dysplasia or labral pathology?
What are her treatment options?
What is the best rehabilitation strategy?
When should you consider a surgical referral?
Like many clinicians, you may see patients such as Emily presenting with anterior hip and groin pain in private practice, sports medicine clinics or primary care settings.
The hip and groin region is often viewed as a “black box” because of its complex anatomy and overlapping pain-referral patterns.
Whether your patient is a weekend warrior, yoga enthusiast or competitive triathlete, accurate diagnosis and management of hip and groin pain can be challenging.
Conditions such as hip impingement syndromes, labral tears, chondral lesions and hip dysplasia are increasingly recognised as causes of hip and groin pain in physically active adults aged 18–45. Although various treatment methods have been reported, there remains a lack of consensus regarding the role of conservative management.
WHAT WILL YOU GAIN FROM ATTENDING?
By attending this course, you will gain:
• An overview of the complex interaction between the groin and the hip joint, including femoroacetabular impingement, hip dysplasia, labral lesions, extra-articular pathologies and tendinopathy.
• A detailed and systematic approach to physical examination using a novel evidence-based tool: the layering concept for the assessment of the adult hip patient.
• A clearer understanding of differential diagnosis in patients with hip and groin pain.
• An evidence-informed approach to the conservative management of hip pain, including hip impingement syndromes and complex presentations.
• Practical experience of progressive exercise therapy, including hip stabilisation, load-management principles, dynamic mobility and longer-term rehabilitation planning for patients with FAI syndrome, labral tears and hip dysplasia.
• Practical experience of evidence-informed manual therapy techniques and their integration with exercise therapy.
• Opportunities to integrate theory, current evidence and treatment tools through case studies and interactive discussion.
