Community, Craft & Courage: Makers Market & Brave the Challenge

Sat 9 Oct 2027 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM BST Rochester Cathedral, ME1 1SX

A unique opportunity for charities and community organisations to raise funds their way, through a creative makers market, a courageous sponsored challenge, or both.

Fundraising isn't easy, especially in today's economic climate, but you don't have to do it alone. At Funding for All, we believe in the power of community, and we know that organising your own fundraising event isn't always possible.

That's why we're bringing charities, voluntary organisations and community groups together for a unique mass participation fundraising event designed to help you raise vital unrestricted income without the time, cost and risk of organising it yourself.

Whether you choose to showcase your organisation at our Makers Market, sign up supporters to take on Brave the Challenge, or get involved in both opportunities, every penny you raise stays with your organisation.

On Saturday 9 October 2027, Rochester Cathedral will provide the stunning backdrop for a day of creativity, courage and community spirit, giving organisations across Kent and Medway the chance to connect with new supporters, raise awareness and generate much-needed funds.

Makers Market
Showcase your creativity, share your story and raise funds through our charity makers market.

This craft and creatives fair is exclusively for charitable organisations, community groups and social enterprises, offering the opportunity to sell handmade items, artwork, crafts, gifts or products created by your beneficiaries, volunteers, staff or supporters.

Stall spaces are heavily subsidised to make participation accessible for organisations of all sizes, and you'll keep 100% of your sales income.

Stallholder Fees: £50 per pitch (up to one 6ft x 2ft table) + £2 booking fee

Brave the Challenge – LEGO® or Glass Walk Challenge
Step up, summon your courage and take on an unforgettable fundraising challenge.

Participants can choose between:

  • Brave the Bricks: a family-friendly LEGO® walk challenge
  • Brave the Glass: an exhilarating glass walk challenge to test your nerve and determination

There are two ways to get involved:

  1. For organisations: Book places for your staff, volunteers, trustees, beneficiaries or supporters and encourage them to raise sponsorship for your cause.
  2. For individual supporters: Book a place yourself and choose a charity or community organisation to support through your fundraising.

Whether taking part as an individual or as part of a team, 100% of sponsorship raised goes directly to the nominated organisation. It's a fun, memorable and impactful way to engage supporters, challenge yourself, generate sponsorship and turn courage into impact.

Registration fee: £20 per person

FAQs

  1. Is the event accessible?
Yes. Rochester Cathedral is an accessible venue. If you, your stallholders or challenge participants have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us in advance and we'll do our best to support your attendance.
  2. What happens after I've booked my stall or challenge walk place?
All bookers will receive a fundraising pack from Funding for All, packed with expert fundraising advice, practical tips and ideas to help you maximise support. The pack will include guidance on promoting your involvement, boosting sponsorship and making the most of the LEGO® and Glass Walk Challenges.
  3. Can supporters book challenge places themselves?
Yes. Individual supporters can book a challenge place and select a participating charity or community organisation to fundraise for. Organisations may also book places on behalf of their staff, volunteers, trustees, beneficiaries and supporters.
  4. Who can take part in the LEGO® and Glass Walk Challenges?
The LEGO® Walk Challenge is suitable for adults and children aged 5+. The Glass Walk Challenge is restricted to participants aged 18 and over. Full participation and safety information will be provided ahead of the event.
  5. How do sponsorship payments work?
Participants raise sponsorship for their chosen organisation. Funding for All does not take a percentage of sponsorship income, meaning 100% of sponsorship raised goes directly to the nominated organisation.
  6. Can I take part in both the Makers Market and Brave the Challenge?
Absolutely. Organisations are welcome to book a market stall, challenge walk places, or both. Taking part in both activities is a great way to maximise fundraising opportunities and engage more supporters.
  7. Do I need fundraising experience to take part?
Not at all. Whether you're an experienced fundraiser or completely new to fundraising, we'll provide guidance, resources and support to help you make the most of the opportunity.
  8. What is included with my market stall booking?
Your booking includes a designated stall pitch (fits one table up to 6ft x 2ft) within Rochester Cathedral. Please note, tables are not included as standard
    - You're welcome to bring your own table and display equipment.
    - If you don't have access to a table, we have a limited number of approximately 6ft x 2ft tables available to hire for £30 plus a £1.50 booking fee. Please add to your booking below.
    - Access to plug sockets is not available, so any electrical items must be battery-operated or cordless. Battery-operated and cordless equipment does not require PAT testing.
  9. Do I need insurance to have a stall?
Yes. All stallholders must hold appropriate Public Liability Insurance (up to £10 million) and will be required to provide evidence of cover following booking.
  10. What can I sell at the Makers Market?
The Makers Market is intended for handmade items, artwork, crafts, gifts and products created or supplied in support of your organisation. If you're unsure whether a product is suitable, please contact us before booking.
  11. Can I sell food and drink?
Yes, provided items are sold for consumption off-site. Examples include preserves, bottled drinks, packaged foods, confectionery and other take-home products. Food and drink cannot be sold for immediate consumption within the cathedral, such as slices of cake, hot food or drinks, as this would conflict with the operation of the cathedral café. If you are selling food or drink, you must hold any required food hygiene certification and provide copies of relevant documentation following booking.
  12. What if I need to cancel my booking?
Bookings are refundable until 21st May 2027. After this date, bookings are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Early notification may allow us to offer your place to another organisation.
