The campaign for culture at the heart of every community!

Do you…

  • Live in Norwich?
  • Care about your community?
  • Believe we all have something brilliant to share?

Fun Palaces is coming to Norwich on Thursday 2nd July, 6–8pm, and we'd love you to join us. We're being hosted by the brilliant Echo Youth Theatre in their home at St Edmunds Church on Fishergate. Echo is a volunteer-led theatre company for 8–18 year olds doing fantastic work with young people across the city, and we're thrilled they're opening up the space for us.

Norwich has a serious appetite for making things happen at street level: independent venues, grassroots arts, makers, neighbourhood organising and a deep culture of doing-it-yourself... Fun Palaces sits right alongside all of that, and this workshop is a chance to find out how it could work for you, your group or your venue.

Whether you've made a Fun Palace before or you've never organised anything in your life, come along!

This workshop is open to all, and might be for you if:

  • You want to find out more about Fun Palaces
  • You have never been involved in organising before and want to start
  • You're already involved in arts/science/culture and interested in new collaborations with grassroots communities
  • You have access to a venue and want people to use the space
  • You've got an idea for an event and want support to make it happen
  • You want to meet other people/organisations doing creative work linking culture and community
  • None of the above, but you are curious!

Access

The workshop is in St Edmunds Church, Fishergate and is wheelchair accessible. If you have any other access requirements at all, get in touch and we'll do everything we can to make it work for you: hello@funpalaces.co.uk.

What is a Fun Palace?

A Fun Palace is a free, local event where people share their skills, talents and interests with others in the local community. Over the last 10 years, almost 50,000 people have made over 2,500 Fun Palace events.

Organisations have thrown open their doors and invited in local people to organise the activities they want to do themselves. People have shared what they love with their neighbours - whether that’s art, science, sports, technology, history, crafts and more. Over the past ten years we've seen it all - poetry reading, dancing, wild weaving, singing, kitchen science experiments, DIY, pinhole cameras, beekeeping, informative talks, language relays, meet the bearded dragon, DIY Hovercrafts, Lava lamp making and stage combat (to name but a few)

This year's Weekend of Action is 2–4 October 2026. This workshop is your way in!

What happens at a workshop?

You’ll meet other people in your area who are curious about community, culture, creativity and fun. We’ll share what a Fun Palace is, how Makers have run theirs (from four neighbours in a front room to a whole town hall takeover) and we’ll help you start sketching out what yours could look like.

Come along for some creative fun and a relaxed chat over a cuppa. You don’t need to be an expert in anything. You just need to want to make something happen with and for the people who live around you.

You might leave with:

  • A clearer idea of what your Fun Palace could be
  • Practical answers to the “how do I actually do this?” questions
  • Other Makers in your area to team up with
  • Free resources, activities, Makers’ Toolkits and ongoing support from us

Everyone’s welcome, whether you’ve never organised anything before, you’re part of a venue or group thinking about hosting, or you just want to come and see what Fun Palaces are all about.
