Great Big Walk for Herts 2026

Join Future Living Hertford and CHIPs for the Great Big Walk for Herts on Saturday 26 September 2026.

Starting from Hartham Common in Hertford at 10:00am and , the event offers three walking routes, making it suitable for experienced walkers, individuals, groups and families.

Every pound raised will support the work of Future Living Hertford and CHIPs, with funds match funded by Helping Herts, helping your support go even further.

Choose your walk

Half-Marathon Walk

  • Approximately 13.1 miles
  • £15 per person
  • Starts at 10:00am

A longer challenge for walkers who would like to take on the full half-marathon distance while raising money for two local charities.

10km Walk

  • £10 per person
  • Starts at 10am

A great option for individuals, friends, colleagues and families who would like a rewarding but more manageable walking challenge.

5km Family Fun Walk

  • £5 per person or £10 per family
  • Starts at 2pm

A relaxed and accessible walk around Hartham Common, suitable for families and younger children.

What will be happening on the day?

Alongside the walks, there will be:

  • Hot and cold drinks
  • Homemade cakes for sale
  • A tombola
  • Charity information
  • Opportunities to make an additional donation or raise sponsorship

Friends, family and well-behaved dogs are welcome to come along to support walkers and enjoy the activities at Hartham Common.

Fundraising

Your entry fee will support Future Living Hertford and CHIPs and will be eligible for match funding through Helping Herts.

Participants are also encouraged to raise additional sponsorship. Details about sponsorship and fundraising will be sent after booking.

Date: Saturday 26 September 2026
Location: Hartham Common, Hertford
Registration opens: 9:00am (21/10km walks) and 1pm (5km)
Participant briefing: 9:45am (21/10km walks) and 1:45pm (5km)
Walks start: 10:00am (21/10km walks) and 2pm (5km)

Please arrive in plenty of time to register and attend the safety briefing.

What to bring

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and the route you have chosen.

We recommend bringing:

  • A refillable water bottle
  • Waterproof clothing or sun protection, depending on the weather
  • Any personal medication you may need
  • A fully charged mobile phone for the longer routes
  • A small amount of money or a payment card for refreshments and the tombola

Important information

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are physically able to complete their chosen route.

Children must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.

Dogs are welcome where appropriate but must be kept under control and on a lead when required.

Full route information and final joining instructions will be sent to registered participants before the event.

The event will go ahead in most weather conditions, although the organisers may amend, postpone or cancel routes if conditions are considered unsafe.

Future Living supports adults and children who have experienced domestic abuse, helping them to recover from trauma, rebuild their confidence and move forward with their lives.

CHIPs

CHIPs supports children and young people with additional needs by helping families access vital equipment and support that can make a real difference to their daily lives.

Helping Herts

Helping Herts brings together local charities and communities to raise money and increase the impact of local fundraising.

Funds raised through the Great Big Walk for Herts will be match funded by Helping Herts, subject to the campaign’s terms and conditions.
