John Whetman Devon Bronze Otter Farm Walk

Join our 2024 winners of the award, Shirley and David Mudge on their Dartmoor hill farm for a farm walk, discussion and light supper.

Huccaby Farm is a 350 ha Duchy of Cornwall tenanted beef and sheep farm high up on Dartmoor. Whilst being a very challenging farm commercially, it has significant wildlife value and the Mudges have worked hard to balance the two.

As well as farming 80 suckler cows and 150 sheep, the Mudges have diversified into a small campsite on the farm, have a portaloo hire business as well as letting out one of the barns as a wedding venue during the summer months when it’s not housing livestock.

Huccaby Farm boasts some rare habitat and the Mudges work very hard to keep the balance between commercial farming and protecting space for wildlife. They proudly combine traditional farming methods with modern technology to make this work. Huccaby is one of just seven Duchy Focus Farms across the country, working towards net zero. 

Our Devon adviser team will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be a light supper provided after the farm walk.
