Exploring Agroforestry in Dairy Systems
Join us for the day at Manor Farm in Evercreech, home of Westcombe Cheddar, on 22 July 2026. We welcome speakers Claire Whittle and Simeon Day to explore the benefits of agroforestry within the dairy system.
Alongside running a farm, Claire is the founder of The Regenerative Vet Consultancy
https://theregenvet.co.uk/
Claire will start the workshop with a discussion on the importance of trees and hedgerows within farmed landscapes for the health and welfare of livestock, particularly in relation to heat stress and a changing climate. She will also discuss the nutritional and medicinal benefits of a diverse diet, including tree fodder and herbs, and how this can help reduce reliance on veterinary medicines.
Simeon Day is the regional hedgerow, orchard and agroforestry specialist, and Tree Team Lead at FWAG Southwest, with over 30 years’ experience in arboriculture and ecology. Simeon will take us on a tour of the agroforestry measures at Westcombe and talk through the do’s and don’ts of tree establishment and management. He will also cover available government funding opportunities and provide application advice back at the farm for those seeking further support.
A delicious lunch of locally sourced food from Westcombe Dairy will be provided at midday, along with tea and coffee on arrival.
This event is funded by the Brue Headwaters Project, which focuses on supporting farmers to improve water quality in the catchment and create valuable habitat for wildlife.
There are stairs to get up to the farm office. Please let us know of any access requirements.
