Celebrate St. Martin’s Day with us!

Every fall, children across Germany celebrate the arrival of the darker season with colorful lanterns, songs, and evening lantern walks. The tradition is especially associated with St. Martin’s Day (Martinstag).

Children often make their own lanterns and then carry them through the streets while singing traditional songs such as „Laterne, Laterne“. In many communities, the lantern procession is followed by a bonfire, treats, and a retelling of the story of St. Martin, who famously shared his cloak with a person in need.

Today, lantern walks are a beloved tradition that celebrate light, community, and the joy of coming together during the darker months of the year. Join us on November 6 for an evening of community and celebration! Laternenfest includes a re-enactment of the St. Martin story, lantern songs, a festive Laternenlauf through the neighborhood, and time to gather around the campfire. Bring your own lantern or simply an electric tea light to light the way as we walk together.

Food will be available for purchase starting at 4:30 pm and our program and walk will begin at 6 pm. After the walk, stick around for additional festivities around the bonfire.
