ORESTEIA
by Aeschylus
Translated by Peter Meineck
September 23 - October 8, 2023
First performed 2,500 years ago, this trilogy of Greek tragedies is foundational to all western theater and speaks to us today from across the centuries. Following the vicissitudes of the infamous House of Atreus, starting with the murder of Agamemnon at the hands of his wife Clytemnestra, the Oresteia asks what sort of society do we want: a vindictive, vengeful society or one where the rule of law prevails?
This production will feature the Oresteia trilogy, with the first play, Agamemnon, performed on Wednesday evenings, the second play, The Libation Bearers, performed on Thursday evenings, and the third play, The Furies, performed on Friday evenings. The full trilogy will be performed on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
