Join us for the opening of 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 - a show of new work by Wexford sculptor Declan Breen
Declan Breen is a Wexford based sculptor whose work includes a public art portfolio in addition to the studio based practice.
The exhibition includes a series of wall mounted sculptures in wood, plaster and miscellaneous objects counterpoised against a background image creating a dramatic tension. The format of each sculpture is neutral, the simplicity of the figures and other elements creates a stage wherein individual narratives are enacted. Narrative and meaning is established not by the uniqueness of the individual elements but by the context, space and placement of the objects in relation. It’s creating a story. Once it’s made available to the public the right of interpretation belongs to the viewer.
The dreaminess and lightness of Declan's works belies a desire to evoke and impart strong emotions - the desire for freedom being the most visceral, with one of the series entitled 'What Do You Fear, I Fear the Cage', mostly produced during the dark months of 2020.
Come share the wonder of these dark fragments of stories!
