The evening will feature

The Details
A performance ritual by Orryelle Defenestrate Bascule

The artist will sculpt hir own self with Clay, horns, bones, fur, fungus…. exploring a range of transitory bestial atavisms. Live voice and violin through loops and FX sets the stage for more primal expression of archetypal progression/regression. Butoh dance, film projection and esoteric poetry infuse the work/play as Orryelle unfolds origins in ancient Horned God/esses…
Orryelle’s art prints, books, tarot and silver limited jewellery will also be available at the event.

Wayward! Satanic Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe
A talk by Dr Shauna Louise Caffrey

Dr. Shauna Louise Caffrey (she/her, sí/í) is an independent researcher and producer. She holds a PhD in Musicology from Maynooth University. Her PhD project, ‘Wayward Sisters: Witchcraft, Music and Magic on the Seventeenth-Century Stage’, explores the origins and impact of onstage sorceresses in Early Modern operatic traditions across Italy, France and England. Inspired by her lifelong passion for folklore and mythology, her research straddles the boundaries of anthropology, musicology and cultural history, and has led to interdisciplinary explorations of the Gothic and Folk Horror. She has been the recipient of the SMI Alison Dunlop Prize and TCD Mahaffy Memorial Prize for original research. She has performed throughout Ireland, the USA and the UK as a musician and performance artist, and is a founding member of experimental music collective Analog On.

In her talk Wayward! Satanic Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe, she will delve into histories, manuscripts and artworks that have shaped our views of the occult and magical from the seventeenth century to the modern day.

About the exhibition:
