Circus is for Every Body Documentary Screening
‘Circus is for Every Body’ is a documentary that follows the experiences of D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent young people in Galway, as they take part in circus for the first time. Galway Community Circus provided weekly circus workshops for young people from Enable Ireland, Scoil Chatríona and Galway Autism Partnership, helping them build skills in aerial, acrobatics, balance and creative expression.
Through two creative residencies, disabled and non-disabled artists from Extraordinary Bodies (a UK inclusive circus company) worked alongside the young people and Galway Community Circus trainers to shape a final performance – ‘Take Up Space’.
This documentary centres the young people as they share their journeys and the joy and camaraderie they felt from this project. Their parents, support workers and the Galway Community Circus and Extraordinary Bodies teams reflect on the delight they felt from working with the young people.
Join us to celebrate the culmination of this inclusive project. There will be questions and answers with the filmmakers, Galway Community Circus and Extraordinary Bodies after the screening.
All tickets proceeds will be used towards circus activities for young people facing disadvantage.
Disabled parking is available and EYE is wheelchair friendly and accessible. The film will be subtitled for D/deaf and hard of hearing viewers. Attendees are welcome to come and go during the film as they need to and we will have access volunteers on site.
Circus is for Every Body was funded by the Rethink Ireland Disability and Participation Awareness Fund, the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal via the Community Foundation Ireland, The Arts Council and Galway City Council.
