Join us for a special in-person artist talk with members of the Mississauga Potters’ Guild.
Artists Karla Rivera and Kim Ross will discuss their individual practices, followed by a conversation with award-winning artist and mentor Susan Low-Beer. Rivera and Ross are both featured in the Gardiner Shop's retail exhibition Confluence, on from July to September.

About the artists:
Susan Low-Beer
Susan Low-Beer studied painting under Alex Colville at Mount Allison University, completing her BFA in 1965, followed by an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Detroit. She then moved to California where she discovered clay. After moving to Toronto in 1980, she started to work figuratively, creating several series of large sculptures including Still Dances and Mutable Selves. In 2001, she created Rocksbreath, an outdoor installation in the courtyard of the Burlington Art Gallery of 30 press-molded figures. In 2003, she began working at the Gardiner Museum with Suzanne Thomson and woman survivors of violence, culminating in 2013 in the exhibition Transformation by Fire, held in conjunction with her exhibition Fragments of Self. From 2016 - 2018, her retrospective Embodiment 30 Years of Sculpture toured three venues in Ontario. Low-Beer has taught at OCADU, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Sheridan College, and other institutions.
Karla Rivera
Karla Rivera is a ceramic artist born and raised in Mexico City. After some travelling, she moved to Hamilton, Ontario. In 2021 she obtained a Bachelor of Craft and Design in Ceramics from Sheridan College. She is currently featured in the Gardiner Shop's 2022 Spring Summer Lookbook.
Kim Ross
Oakville artist Kim Ross is a graduate of the Ceramics program at Sheridan College. She has exhibited in Come Up To My Room (2020) at the Gladstone Hotel, Fusion’s Breakthrough (2018), and The Elora Sculpture Project (2019). She was awarded honorable mention in Ceramics at the 2019 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair.
