SMASH is a night when the next generation of artists, arts enthusiasts, and cultural philanthropists come together to celebrate our city’s vibrant arts community. On June 15, we’re celebrating the summer SOLSTICE, the longest and brightest day of the year, with show-stopping installations by GUNNAR Floral and El Ekeko X Ashorii, sets by DJ Dre Ngozi, contemporary art, cocktails, cuisine, and more, including access to the International Ceramic Art Fair.

Installations by GUNNAR Floral

Jaime McCuaig of GUNNAR Floral is an artist whose creative practice engages with the living world of plants and flowers, processes of growth, and the ephemerality of seasons. Inspired by the intersection of manufactured landscapes and true wilderness, GUNNAR confronts its urban audience with an opportunity to see the natural world in new ways.

Installation by El Ekeko X Ashorii

El Ekeko (Simón Rojas Gajardo – b. Santiago, Chile) is a multi-disciplinary artist & creative technologist with a background in music, theatre, and graphic arts. His body of work is predominantly based on immersive and interactive multi-media installations which create illusion and augmentations to a viewers reality. Using light, sound, and an endless sandbox of technologies he explores the function and limitations of sensory inputs, both in humans and machines to transform and manipulate the human experience through vignettes of phenomenology.

Ashorii, the nom de guerre of this Iranian-Canadian artist, pushes the boundaries of art and technology. His experiments traverse AI, deep learning, generative models, visual understanding, and audio synthesis. With relentless curiosity, Ashorii crafts immersive experiences that defy conventions and challenge the status quo. Weaving together innovation from code and data, he creates a captivating universe where technology and artistic expression converge. Prepare to be inspired as you embark on a journey into Ashorii’s visionary realm, where art and science collide to shape a future beyond imagination.
