What each Young Master receives
- A place to belong. A MAG uniform, a regular group and trusted adults who get to know him and make time for him.
- A structured rites of passage curriculum. Four cycles that help him explore who he is, understand his emotions, build healthy relationships and practise leadership.
- Mentoring and practical tools. Group circles, resources and LifeWork challenges that help him put what he learns into practice at home, at school and with friends.
- Warrior Training and new experiences. Opportunities to take part in trips, camping and retreats, where he can build friendships, work through setbacks and take on responsibility.
- Support that reaches home. Online PACE sessions give his parents and carers practical ways to support him between sessions.
Our trauma-informed, attachment-aware approach gives him time to build trust. We use clear routines and boundaries, and he can take part without having to share anything personal before he’s ready.

Why Fire?
Before the world knew him as Killmonger, he was a boy with a basketball.
In Black Panther, young Erik finds his father dead in their Oakland flat. His uncle, King T’Chaka, returns to Wakanda and leaves him behind. Years later, Wakanda has to face the man it left behind as a boy.
At MAG, we pause the story and ask what happened in between. Who could Erik have talked to? Who might have noticed when he went quiet? What would it have taken for him to trust that someone would come back?
Fire is the emotions, courage and discipline chapter of Manhood Academy Global’s rites of passage programme. Stories like Erik’s give boys a way to explore grief, anger and abandonment. They can talk about the character, listen to each other and decide for themselves how much of their own experience they want to share.
What your young person will work towards
- Recognising what he feels. Name an emotion and spot an early sign that pressure is building.
- Pausing before reacting. Practise a way to steady himself when he feels wound up, embarrassed or disrespected.
- Having more options in a conflict. Rehearse how to set a boundary, walk away safely or ask an adult to step in.
- Knowing who to turn to. Identify someone he trusts and practise what to say when he needs help.
- Following through after a setback. Choose one habit to work on and reflect on what helps him keep going.
Through group circles, mentoring and practical challenges, each Young Master works on a personal Fire Plan covering what sets him off, what helps him reset and who’s in his corner. LifeWork gives him small ways to try these skills between sessions. Coached MMA is one feature of the Teen evenings.
For professionals supporting a young person
We welcome enquiries from social workers, foster carers, schools and youth practitioners, including those supporting boys in care. Before a referral, we can discuss what the young person wants from Fire, what helps him feel comfortable in a group and which outcomes would matter in his everyday life.
Our approach is trauma-informed. We use clear routines and boundaries, give boys time to build trust and offer ways to participate without sharing personal experiences. Staff working directly with young people are DBS-checked. We can discuss safeguarding arrangements and how we’ll communicate with the adults supporting him before he starts.
For parents and carers
Our online PACE sessions give you space to ask questions, connect with other families and talk through practical ways to support your young person at home. You’ll also have a MAG point of contact for questions about his participation.
At Manhood Academy Global (MAG), we help boys understand what they feel, build relationships they can trust and practise what to do when pressure rises. Our rites of passage curriculum takes boys through four cycles: Earth explores identity and belonging, Fire develops emotional awareness, courage and discipline, Water makes space for healing and relationships, and Air develops purpose and leadership.
Our approach is trauma-informed and attachment-aware. We know trust can take time, especially for boys who’ve experienced loss, disruption or adults coming and going. We build it through consistent adults, predictable routines and clear boundaries. When a boy lashes out or shuts down, we stay curious about what he might be carrying, help him take responsibility for his actions and give him a way back into the conversation.
Through mentoring, group circles, retreats and Warrior Training, boys get to put those skills into practice. In Boys 2 Men Module 2, we share this approach with parents, carers and teachers so they can help boys find words for what they feel and stay connected when emotions run high.
