2 day Wild clay collecting processing and building with Adele Williams

Working with locally sourced clay from Harlow, you'll learn the entire process from identifying and gathering clay in the landscape to processing it into a workable clay body ready for making.

Adele Williams /Hackney Potter, is a London-based potter, and teacher making work from Clay Collective.
Over the last decade Adele has developed a practice focused on functional ceramics and material experimentation. She works directly with natural materials, including wild clay, ash glazes, and alternative firing methods, using making as a way to explore and understand materials.
Adele teaching handbuilding and wheel throwing alongside specialist courses on working with found clays and incorporating foraged natural materials into glazes.

Over the course of the weekend, you'll be introduced to techniques for:

• Identifying naturally occurring clay in the local environment
• Collecting and processing raw clay by hand
• Preparing wild clay for use 
• Handbuilding small vessels using traditional methods

You'll create a series of small vases, cups, or jugs using pinching and coiling techniques. You'll refine your forms through smoothing and burnishing, exploring the unique qualities and character of local clay.

Your finished pieces will be dried and fired after the workshop and will be ready to collect a few weeks later.

No previous ceramics experience is necessary beginners and experienced makers are all welcome
