Minbar Poets – A Summer Creative Program for Girls
Join the Georgetown Islamic Center for Minbar Poets, a unique summer program designed to help young girls discover and develop their voice through the art of poetry.
This enriching program provides a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where participants will learn how to write poetry as a means to reflect, express themselves, and connect with others. Through guided instruction and interactive sessions, students will explore creativity, storytelling, and personal expression.
Over the course of the program, participants will take part in 8 engaging workshops, culminating in a special poetry showcase where they can share their work and celebrate their journey.
Program Details:
- Dates: June 20th – August 15th, 2026
- Schedule: Saturdays, 10:15 AM – 12:00 PM
- Who Can Join: Girls ages 14–17
- Format: 8 workshops + final poetry showcase
The program will be led by Sr. Yasmin Khawaja, M.Ed, an experienced writer, designer, poetry curator, and teacher, dedicated to nurturing creativity and confidence in young learners.
As inspired by the words: “Some poetry contains wisdom.” (Hadith – Sahih al-Bukhari), this program encourages participants to connect deeply with language and meaning.
