Get Out More is delivering a free forest school for children aged 5-12 who are neurodivergent. This will comprise a 3 hour outdoor session on Saturday 20th June, in the beautiful woodland at Woodsworth Exploring in Oakworth, Keighley.

This programme is specifically designed for children who are neurodivergent (formal diagnosis not required), and will be supported by a high ratio of trained adults who will adapt activities to meet the needs of the children attending.  Parents are invited to stay for the session if they would like to, but it is not a requirement.

With a child-led ethos, forest school provides inspiring, positive experiences for children to learn and develop new skills while having fun in the outdoors. Get Out More forest schools include elements of problem solving, managed risk taking, creativity and co-operation through diverse activities such as woodland games, art, den building and campfires, all undertaken according to carefully managed and risk assessed policies and procedures.

Being outdoors can help calm the mind and body, it encourages joy, curiosity and creativity, and a supportive environment fosters confidence, independence, social and nature connection.

Here's what one parent said about their little boy's attendance at a SEND forest school session in February:

"I think just being outdoors, doing anything is really good for Jack. Socialising doesn't always come easy to him. It's a safe space for him to explore. Jack doesn't say much and he doesn't tell us a great deal about how he feels about things. When he comes home after forest school, he's really relaxed and has a lovely afternoon, and you can tell that it's met needs on a lot of different levels."

IMPORTANT

Children who will not be accompanied by a parent/carer must be able to attend to their own toileting needs and be able to walk independently.

We aspire to make this session as inclusive as possible. If you have any concerns about physical accessibility, please contact us in order to discuss how we can work together to meet your needs.
