A unique cross-cultural collaboration blending the intricate modal structures of Indian classical ragas with the rich storytelling traditions of Mexican corridos honoring everyday heroes.
Award-winning veena virtuoso, Saraswathi Ranganathan, and 2026 National Heritage Fellowship Award winning Mexican folk musician, Juan Díes, create a musical bridge between South Asian and Latin folk heritages seamlessly intertwining classical Indian strings with the acoustic guitars and poetry of Mexican regional music. Joined by Swaminathan Selvaganesh on kanjira and konnakol, and Greg Nergaard on bass, this performance blooms with emotion, rhythm, and cross-cultural resonance.
Ragas: Melodic frameworks from Indian classical music that construct specific moods or emotions using precise combinations of notes.
Corridos: Traditional Mexican narrative ballads that tell true stories of history, oppression, or daily life.
Experience a transcendent evening in an intimate setting where song becomes story, and story becomes connection.
