Standing proudly in the heart of the Ebbw Fach Valley, Llanhilleth Miners' Institute is one of South Wales' most impressive surviving monuments to the coal mining era. By day, it tells the story of a proud community built on hard work and resilience. By night... many believe it becomes something altogether different.

⛏️ A Building Built by Miners

Officially opened in September 1906, Llanhilleth Miners' Institute was built to serve the educational, recreational, and social needs of local miners and their families.
Funded through contributions from both miners and colliery owners, the magnificent building quickly became the centre of community life.

Within its walls were:
📚 A library and reading room
🎭 A theatre and entertainment hall
🎱 Billiard rooms and social areas
🏊 A unique indoor swimming pool hidden beneath the building

For generations, thousands of miners, families, performers, and visitors passed through its doors. The laughter, struggles, celebrations, and hardships of a mining community all became woven into the fabric of the Institute itself.
Today, much of that history still remains, creating an atmosphere unlike any modern venue.
