Various locations across North Ayrshire, KA22
Description
Start the new year with a gift to yourself: the chance to explore three of Ayrshire's quieter trails with the guidance of a local expert.
"Hidden Gems of North Ayrshire: A Guided Series" is brought to you by Gillian's Walks and The Outdoor Partnership Ayrshire, as part of their Blue & Green Health Programme.
This walk series invites you to invest in your wellbeing and experience the benefits of being near water or surrounded by nature, whilst uncovering the fascinating history and hidden beauty of Ayrshire’s landscapes. From the glens and waterfalls of Fairlie, the Velvet Path above Dalry, to sweeping coastal views near Ardrossan, these peaceful, unsigned routes are every bit as rewarding as the region's more popular trails.
Take the journey with us and make this your year to reconnect with nature, learn something new, and explore some of the paths less travelled in North Ayrshire.

1. Monday 13th January 2025 | Fairlie Glens & Waterfalls Circular | 4.3 miles, 2.5-3hrs
On a clear day the views from this route are simply outstanding: the islands of Cumbrae & Arran and the pink sandy beaches at Fairlie and Hunterston. The walk also passes the remains of Fairlie Castle. The return section follows the Fairlie Moor Road and then the Ayrshire Coastal Path. There is the opportunity to visit some fantastic hidden waterfalls along the route! Start/end point: Fairlie train station.
2. Monday 3rd February 2025| Dalry Trails | 4.6 miles, 2.5-3hrs
This circular route weaves together the historic Doggartland, once home to a large cotton mill, with the tranquil Velvet Path, a grassy lane bordered by old hedgerows. Enjoy the peaceful countryside above Dalry and a glimpse of the area’s industrial past, including an old limekiln. Start/end point: Dalry public park.
3. Monday 3rd March 2025 | Ardrossan Upland Coastal Circuit | 6.5 miles, 3.5-4hrs
We will start with a stroll along the sandy beach before ascending through a residential area to the Ardrossan High Road, where panoramic views of the Clyde islands await. We will then return to sea level via scenic farmland. This route offers the perfect blend of coastal and countryside landscapes. Start/end point: north shore parking area.
