Description
Join us for 'A Walk of ART'! This energetic day out invites you to explore Ayrshire's rich heritage on a guided walk which ties together the stories told by the incredible Alloway Railway Tunnel mural, with an invigorating walk along the Ayrshire Coastal Path to the village of Dunure. Think unique art, fascinating local stories, and fresh sea air!
As we kick off our adventure at the Alloway Railway Tunnel, you’ll get to see and hear about the amazing new mural being created by talented artist Chris Rutterford alongside thousands of people from the local community. This groundbreaking art installation captures the spirit of Ayrshire, featuring scenes of Robert Burns at work and lively depictions of local life, including a whole section dedicated to Dunure Harbour. Once complete, the mural will have helped to rejuvenate this part of the village and will be one of the largest murals in Scotland.
Then we’ll lace up our walking boots and head along the former railway line, making our way towards the coast at Greenan Castle, from where we will hike the Ayrshire Coastal Path to the charming fishing village of Dunure. Weather-permitting we'll enjoy panoramic views of the Clyde coast, the Isle of Arran, and the rugged Heads of Ayr while breathing in that invigorating sea breeze. Along the way you'll hear about the work and dedication of the Ayrshire Coastal Path volunteers, as well as another aspiring community project: The Culzean Way. This stretch of coastline is also known for its beautiful displays of Primroses at this time of year!
Once we reach Dunure, we’ll hear about Dunure Castle ruins, the Labyrinth, and the remarkable story of local hero William 'Buckie' Munro. Plus, you’ll get to see one of the 'Bruce's Web' art installations, part of a new interactive arts trail commemorating 750 years of King Robert The Bruce in North Carrick.
This is more than just a walk; it’s a chance to connect with nature, appreciate art, and learn about the unique history that makes Ayrshire special. So grab your walking shoes and come along for an unforgettable day filled with discovery, creativity, and coastal charm!
