Play Days #2: Card Games
Sun 5 May 2024 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST
Arch 19 Watson St, Manchester, M3 4LP
Description
Channel big kid energy, get your game on and connect to your community on a wholesome screen-free Sunday!
Join us for the second in our playful community spaces which tap into the child within and connect with others in a joyful way! We will be hosting monthly screen-free, Play Days that focus on different types of play, from board games to murder mystery/dinner party games, digital gaming and exit games to drama games, school yard games and children's party games! We'll skip, juggle arm wrestle, play cards and throw in some trivia for good measure. Come alone to meet new people or bring your whole gang, all genders and ages welcome (over 18.)
This is a "held space" with some gentle facilitation to bring materials, break the ice, provide structure and pop people in teams etc, but is primarily a community space shaped by those who attend.
The next type of play is: CARD GAMES! Please feel free to bring your favourite card-based games or suggest some old favourites!
- Blackjack
- Gin rummy
- 21
- Uno (totally counts!)
- Top Trumps (please bring your own, the nerdier the better)
- Other card-based games!
This is the second session - the first one went really well for all involved, with people making friends via the shared activity organised fun provides. The main focus is having a screen-free Sunday in which people can socialise easily. We are really excited to host more self-led community spaces this season that we can shape together, so do come along to help us co-create a new network of strangers and friends together.
A note on charging for this space: Having run events for 8 years, we find that sadly free tickets are not honoured and result in an inability for facilitators to effectively plan sessions, or participants have a quality experience as drop off rates are so high. Girl Gang is a non funded, independent collective run by volunteers. Paying for a ticket allows us to have a firmer sense of how many people and who is coming to the session and to honour the time of our facilitator, thus making our collective as a whole more sustainable. Having said this, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. We would really love these community spaces to be as inclusive as possible and if you have the wish to attend this session, feel you would benefit and the cost is genuinely a barrier to your attendance, please drop an email to girlgangmanchester@gmail.com and we will happily add you to the guest list, no questions asked.
