We Have Been Their Kind: A Ritual of Remembrance for Our Outcast Dead

We gather at twilight to give thanks. 

We remember. We mourn. 

We draw strength. We defy. 

We survive.  

Join queer non-binary witches and performers Avadrian Night and Jae Auxjera for an immersive, collective ritual to remember, grieve, honour and celebrate our 'outcast dead': our queer, trans, sex worker and marginalised witch ancestors whose resistance, courage and imagination we continue to draw strength from today.

Using folk magick practices such as drumming, chanting and movement alongside live spoken word and song, we gather at twilight to acknowledge and honour our past. 

Out of darkness, we carry forward our ancestors' legacies of difference, defiance, tenderness, strength and survival, in the hope that those once pushed to the edges may yet empower us to collectively imagine and create a world in which no one has to live there.​​​​​​​

Where: This event takes place in Sackville Gardens at Twilght.

Meeting place: The beacon of light monument, Canal side, left of the Sackville Street entrance.

Clothing, umberellas, torches: This event will take place outside, at twilight, in late November in the North of England- please dress accordingly with warm layers and waterproofs.

Age guidance: 16+ Adult themes and explicit content- We love a teen witch but discretion advised if you plan to bring a young person in your life.

Dress code: A more thematic (but simple) dress code may follow closer to the event. 

Let there be light: Similarly there may be an invitation for lights, candles etc. Watch this space. 

Wet weather plan: The event will go ahead unless the weather is categorised as extreme. 

Guide dogs welcome! Please leave other furry companions and familiars at home 

SEASON OF THE WITCH: Witches, Women, Magic, Misogyny

Journey through Autumn with Girl Gang across hillsides, cityscapes, storytelling and screenings, to explore how most of modern misogyny can be traced back to the figure of the witch. In their first ever thematic season the collective continues to celebrate a decade of feminist creativity, collaboration and community with crafts, pop culture, rituals and rebellion. Inspired by the horrific histories and curious present manifestations of witchcraft which are both political and ethereal, the work explores resistance, autonomy, collectivity and care, Season of the Witch showcases drag, discussion, dancing and nature, proudly presented with Girl Gang's signature blend of theatricality, softness, resilience building and reflection.

ACCESSIBILITY

• Though this event is outside, it will be designed with access in mind to accomodate those with physical limitations. 

• We do not have any funding and thus unfortunately cannot afford BSL interpreters.

• We will have at least three Girl Gang Manchester team members supporting this event who we will introduce to attendees upon arrival and will be on hand to support you.
