Girl Geek & Datakirk: Meaningful Networking

We're really excited to be running this networking event as part of the Festival Fringe for the Scottish Ethnic Minority Talent Summit 2025! We'd also like to thank our sponsors, Wood MacKenzie, for kindly hosting this event for us. 

Meaningful networking

Mention the word "networking" to many people and you'll see a physical reaction - it's a dreaded word and a dreaded task! But it doesn't have to be like that - and learning a few skills to help make it more manageable, less daunting and maybe even an enjoyable experience can help you in many aspects of your professional life.

Come along if you want to learn those skills, share your thoughts, and hear from others doing the same. We will hear from our expert speaker, then split into small breakout groups facilitated by an experienced networker to give you opportunity to share your own experiences and ideas, and start actively working on your next steps.

What will we cover?

• Understand what we really mean by Networking
• Hear ideas on how to overcome common challenges when networking
• Discuss your own experiences and understanding of networking – good and bad!
• Develop your own achievable approach and strategies
• Add some new folk to your network!

What should you bring?

Just yourself, your enthusiasm and an openness to both listen & talk about your challenges with networking.

What does it cost?

The event is free for attendees - with the help of our partners we will cover the venue and refreshment costs.

How long will it last?

Doors open at 18:00, talks will start at 18:30 and we'll be finished by 20:30. Don't worry if you need to leave early, or arrive a little late, you are still more than welcome to attend.

Who should come?

Our event is aimed at those in the early to mid career stage, but we know there will always be advice that can apply to anyone from new graduates to those in later stages of their career.

Whilst our events are aimed at those who identify as women and non-binary, we welcome all who want to help build a better community by listening, understanding and supporting each other.

Gentlemen, you are most welcome if you have been invited by a woman attending the event, or if you don't know anyone going, please get in touch with the organisers before you book your ticket.

Our Hosts

We are delighted to be running the event at Wood MacKenzie, thanks to the generosity of the organisation. As a volunteer group, we rely on the support of organisations who care about Diversity, Inclusion and Equity to support us to run these events. They themselves have volunteers from their teams to help make these events happen, and we are grateful for their support.
