Camp Parliament for Girls Vancouver 2022 introduces girls ages 11 to 16 to the Canada's parliamentary system of government. Camp Parliament for Girls Toronto begins with a lesson the structure and history of the Canadian Parliament. The lesson goes on to review the eligibility requirements to stand for office, a review of political parties, a study of the structure of elections and recognition of Canada's female political leaders. Students will form political parties, create a campaign platform to stand for office, vote in an election and form a government to pass a law. Each student will serve as an MP. Each Students will be serve a pre-packed individual snacks; lunch will not be served. Each student will receive a GIP t-shirt to wear during the event. The class runs from 8am to 12pm. Is the registration fee refundable? The registration fee is non-refundable unless the GIP cancels a class. If a participant is unable to attend a class a credit will be placed on file with GIP that may be used at any time for a future class. The credit may be used one-time class transfer and the credit does not expire.
Where is the event hosted? The class will be hosted at a Marriott Hotel property.
Is this a partisan program or supported by a political party? No, the Girls in Politics Initiative is a private company that is self-funded through the fees generated from hosting events.
Is financial aid available? Financial aid is available on a first come, first serve basis. Email finance@girlsinpolitics.com to request financial aid.
Who are the instructors? Our Lead Instructors are women that currently or have previously worked in government or electoral politics. Our support staffers are current or former licensed teachers. Our instructors and support staff have criminal background checks and WWC cards.
COVID-19 Policy
We will be following the guidance and regulations local health departments and the Public Health Agency of Canada in formulating protocols for in-person camps for 2022-2023.
To ensure the health and security of our participants, instructors and support staff, the Girls in Politics Initiative has implemented the following policy:
Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to attend all indoor camps, classes and events for students 5 years of age and up.
Students with a medical condition or a closely-held religious belief that prevents vaccination must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test to attend an indoor camp, class or event. The COVID-19 test must be administered within 24 hours of the start of the indoor camp, class or event. Masks are optional unless mandated by the public health authorities however masks are strongly recommended.
All Girls in Politics Initiative instructors and support staff are required to be full vaccinated as of September 22, 2021. All GIP instructors and support staff will wear masks during all indoor camps, classes and events.
For all indoor programming masks are required at all times for students, GIP instructors and GIP support staff regardless of vaccination status.
