Camp Parliament for Girls Melbourne 2023 introduces girls ages to Australia's parliamentary system of government. Camp Parliament for Girls begins with a lesson the structure and history of the Australian's government. The lesson goes on to review the eligibility requirements to stand for office and a review of political parties with students for their own parties. Students will learn about the structure of elections and the women that made history serving in government. Each student will stand for office, create a campaign platform, vote in a virtual election, and form a government to pass a bill. Each student will serve as a MP. Looking for more events? Is the registration fee refundable? The registration fee is non-refundable unless the organizer cancels the session. If a participant is unable to attend a session a credit will be placed on file that may be used at any time for a future program. The credit does not expire.
Is this a partisan program or supported by a political party? No, the Girls in Politics Initiative is an independent organization that is self-funded through the fees generated from hosting sessions. The curriculum is civic education.
Is financial aid available? Financial aid is available on a first come, first serve basis. Email finance@girlsinpolitics.com to for all financial aid inquiries.
Who are the instructors? Our Lead Instructors are women that currently or have previously worked in government or electoral politics. Our support staffers are current or former licensed teachers. Our instructors and support staff have criminal background checks and WWC cards.
