Description
[ENGLISH BELOW]
Ceolchoirm le Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Ultan O'Brien agus Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, dhá reachtáil ag Gliogar i Mám.
Beidh an ceolchoirm ag oscailt an suiteán Fáistineach le Peadar-Tom Mercier mar pháirt den togra Dinnseanchas le Hometree.
Is suiteán closamhairc é Fáistineach faoin dhá thodhchaí de cheantair agus phobail ardtailte, sa gcás seo cuirtear An Mám, Dúiche Sheoigheach agus Tuaisceart Chonamara faoi chaibidil. ‘Sé an sprioc ná dhá thoradh a chur i láthair: scrios agus forbairt indéanta.
Is todhchaí é ‘scrios’ a bhfuil an earnáil olla tite as a chéile, tagann teip ar fheilméaracht bheithíoch mar gheall ar an méadú báiseatch, tá bithéagsúlacht an dúlra díothaithe, cuireann speicis ionracha agus laghdú na gcoillte dúchasacha brú ar chaighdeán uisce, dúnann scoileanna agus seirbhísí áitiúla agus tá an ceantar bánaithe.
Is todhchaí dearfach é ‘forbairt indéanta’ ina bhfuil cumasc ann idir traidisiún agus fiontar, na sean-chleachtais fheilméarachta agus caomhnú an nádúir. Ní hamháin go leanann an caomhnóireacht seo go dtí feabhas na bithéagsúlachta agus gabháil carbóin, ach go dtí eacnamaíocht comhoibríoch i bpobal faoi bhláth. Agus an geilleagar ag fás, tagann desieanna nua meithle agus ioncaim chun solais ó modhanna nuálacha feilméarachta do na glúnta atá romhainn. Tá an todhchaí seo bunaithe ar Éirinn réamhthionsclaíoch ina bhfuil an pobal, dúlra agus fiontar áitiúil fite fuaite lena chéile.
Tá an suiteán seo cruthaithe ar mhaithe le comhrá a spreagadh i bpobal ardtailte faoin todhchaí agus faoin gcumhact atá acu ceann dearfach a bhaint amach tríd an gcinneadh i dteannta a chéile.

A concert with Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Ultan O'Brien agus Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, organised by Gliogar in Maum.
The concert will launch the installation Fáistineach by Peadar-Tom Mercier as part of the Dinnseanchas project with Hometree.
Fáistineach is an audio-visual installation concerning the dual-trajectory of upland areas & communities, in this case An Mám, Joyce Country and North Connemara. The aim is to represent two future outcomes: worst-case scenario and possible progress.
‘Worst-case scenario’ is a future in which the domestic wool industry has plummeted, increased rainfall has led to the collapse of cattle farming, biodiversity reaches extinction level, invasive species and the reduction of native woodlands cause water quality disasters, depopulation accelerates, schools and local services close and the area is abandoned.
‘Possible progress’ is a future in which tradition meets innovation, where traditional sustainable farming methods are hybridised biodiversity caretaking enterprises. This new custodianship not only leads to an increase of biodiversity and carbon capturing, but also to the locality flourishing with a co-operative economy. As the local economy grows, new forms of meitheal and income from progressive agricultural methods come to light for future generations of farmers. This a future based on pre-industrial Ireland in which the community, local economy and the natural ecosystem are synchronised for the betterment of all.
This installation hopes to spark conversation in upland communities around their future and the power they have to make it a positive one through their collective decisions.
An té nach gcuireann san earrach ní bhaineann sé sa bhfómhar.
