7 Women, 7 Muses: Camões in Comics is a book launch and conversation celebrating an anthology created to mark the 500th anniversary of Luís de Camões. Bringing together seven Portuguese artists, the volume reimagines the women of Camões’ lyric poetry through the language of contemporary comics and visual storytelling.
Situated within broader discussions of translation, adaptation, and the Global Iberian world, the event explores how classical texts continue to circulate across languages, media, and cultural contexts. Through image, narrative, and reinterpretation, figures such as Dinamene, Bárbara, Violante, and the Menina dos Olhos Verdes are revisited from contemporary perspectives, opening new dialogues on literary afterlives.
The event will be introduced by
Dr Alexandra Lourenço Dias, Director of the Camoes
Centre for Portuguese Language and Culture at King’s College London.
