The Tiger Who Came to Tea: A Tiny Live Story-and-Music Concert

Come and step inside a much-loved story with us.

Inspired by The Tiger Who Came to Tea, this tiny, live concert brings storytelling and classical music together in the intimacy of our living room at Goodworth House.

As the story unfolds, live cello and piano weave music through the narrated action, bringing the characters and moments of the story to life. With the musicians only a few feet away, children can see and hear how the music is made - completely live, unamplified and wonderfully close-up.

The concert has been created for children from newborn to around six years old — really, for anyone who still loves the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. It has been designed so that children at different developmental stages can experience it in their own way: the very youngest can simply absorb the sounds, colours and atmosphere, while older children can follow the story more closely and discover how the music helps to tell it. Home-schooled children are very warmly welcome.

Each performance lasts 45 minutes and is limited to just 20 people, creating a warm, relaxed and very small-scale first experience of live classical music.

These children's concerts have grown out of the Goodworth House Concert Series, where we open our home in the Hampshire countryside for intimate classical concerts with exceptional musicians. Our audiences sit only a few feet from the performers, and everything is live and unamplified. These tiny story-and-music concerts bring that same idea to children: beautiful music experienced close-up, informally and without barriers.
