Music for a While
Erlend Vestby, cello · Tom Jesty, piano · Natalie Montakhab, soprano
A beautiful lunchtime programme for soprano, cello and piano, moving from the intimacy of the Baroque to the colour and elegance of French song and chamber music.
The concert opens with Purcell’s exquisite Music for a While and Sweeter than Roses, alongside Gabrielli and Vivaldi cello sonatas, Bach’s hushed Quia respexit and the serene Domine Deus from Vivaldi’s Gloria.
The second half turns to France: Debussy’s shimmering Arabesque No. 1 and Nuit d’étoiles, Saint-Saëns’ beloved The Swan, Fauré’s delicate Le secret and Les berceaux, followed by Lalo, Hahn’s impossibly graceful À Chloris and Ravel’s sultry Vocalise-étude en forme de habanera.
An intimate hour of ravishing music — lyrical, warm and beautifully suited to a winter lunchtime at Goodworth House.
