Introduction to Food Growing workshops
*Please note this is the first of a series of 4 workshops, please sign up if you are able to attend all the workshops.
The workshops will introduce foundational approaches and skills for growing food using natural methods (no chemicals). Learners will practice seed sowing and seed care, practices around pests and diseases, composting, plant care and harvesting.
The sessions will be held in the Granville Community Garden which is an active site running community activities and producing fruit, vegetables and flowers.
In June 2025, GCK will be running a 'Level 1 Award in Practical Horticultural Skills' so these introductory workshops will be an opportunity for participants to see how they get on and if they'd like to sign up to the more formal qualification.
Facilitated by Jo Hill. Coming from rural Lincolnshire, surrounded by cabbages, Jo started to learn how to grow vegetables in the garden at
home. Since then, Jo has experience as a food growing and enterprise practitioner supporting the development of food producers and rural
cooperatives in a number of countries, most recently Lebanon. Jo has completed an apprenticeship with Growing Communities and trained in Regenerative Food, Farming and Enterprise at Schumacher College.
